Golf in The Costa Brava

The Costa Brava area is an up and coming golf destination. The region offers frequent flights from the majority of UK airports to Girona (or Gerona) as it is better known in the UK. You can also fly into Barcelona airport which is around 1.5 - 2 hrs drive to the main golfing area.

The golfing area is away from the main tourist locations that are known to the British Holiday maker and offer quaint villages, good restaurants and the friendliness of the Catalan people. As golfers are continually looking towards different golf destination this is an area not to be missed and less pricey than some of the more well known areas of Spain.

Golf Costa Brava
With a characteristic British feel to it, Costa Brava golf course is suitable for golfers of varying levels. The front nine are completely different to the back nine, they are encircled by several varieties of tree and the fairways are fairly tight whereas the back nine are set in open countryside.

Golf d’ Aro
Situated some 300m above sea level in the picturesque Les Gavarres Mountains is the must play course Golf d’Aro. It is recommended to take a good supply of golf balls as there is little chance of retrieval should they stray too far from the tee!

PGA Catalunya

This is one of Europe’s top 50 courses and truly magnificent. The course is long, hilly and challenging with numerous water hazards and undulating terrain. Buggies are recommended at this course. A most enjoyable course to play and extremely good value for money.

Golf Girona
This is a lovely course in the hills above Girona. Golf Girona is reminiscent of the beautiful tree lined courses in the Wentworth area with some challenging holes on the back nine. This is definitely worth the trip inland and if desired it can be combined with a trip to the city.

  Golf Platja de Pals
This is one of the few courses with a par 73. It is relatively long, tight and windy on the first nine due to the sea breeze. The final hole is challenging with an undulating green.

Serres de Pals
This is one of the easier courses on the Costa Brava and although the fairways are wide the rough makes it challenging. Not many trees on this course but a few water hazards. This is a course to enjoy a pleasant round of golf with lovely scenery.

Emporda

With the additional 18 hole being added here making this club a 36 hole golf course we are confident that it will become one of the finest complexes in Spain. The links course has fast and wide fairways and the Forest course runs through pines with narrow fairways There are many water hazards and well placed bunkers. This course is a must if visiting the area and offers a reduction for playing 36 holes on the same day (not valid in high season).

Torremirona
This course is in the northern part of the country and very scenic. The course is part of a luxury residential and hotel complex and similar to a Florida style of golf course. The course is popular with mid and high handicap golfers due to the wide open fairways and big greens.

Peralada

A well designed immaculately kept course and popular with golfers. This is not a really long course but still offers challenging golf. The course finishes with a long par 3 over water which ha ruined many a score.
